Personal Statement Dentistry Tips

Writing the perfect personal statement for your dentistry application is a process and not something rushed to be completed within a few days of your application deadline. This means that you will need to work on your personal statement at regular intervals at a very early stage in the application process for dental school. In the initial stages, we recommend that you don’t try to get over fussed first about the number of words ideally required.

You just want to get pen on paper so that eventually you will be able to refine the final version. We recommend not to overlook this part of the application process and therefore advise that you start on your dentistry personal statement at the beginning of year 12 commencing your sixth form. Once you have completed two or three draft versions, you then need to obtain a copy of the relevant skills the university is looking for in dental students and start ticking these off 1 by 1.

This will also highlight any deficiencies in your skills and therefore you will have enough time to rectify or remedy these defects. Once your final version is coming to fruition, it should be methodical and flow effortlessly when reading instead of being disjointed. It is important to realise that active sentences are much more impressive to the university selection panel just using passive words or sentences.

Once your personal statement has been read by the selection panel, they will want to already have a feeling that they know you as a person. In the early stages of your personal statement, it is perfectly fine to ask a school teacher to advise and check, however in the latter stages of completion, you need someone who has sufficient expert dental knowledge, has probably done hundreds of personal statement checks themselves and is going to be very critical when reading it.

This is in order for you to make the best personal statement that is possible and therefore you are increasing your chances of being accepted for a place at a UK dental University.
